Perry came in second and scored only 15% - less then half of Herman Cain who came in first with 37% (congratulations
Hermy). Regardless of this straw poll, Perry’s stance on illegal immigration will ultimately be his downfall –
and he will fall!
The correct (right) side has serious issues with illegal immigration and Perry is the weakest
of all republican governors and GOP presidential candidates.
No need for a wall he says; he can’t
be serious…I‘m afraid so.
For the most part, straw polls are not an accurate forecast
on who will actually secure the Republican nomination in 2012. I am fairly sure though, it won’t be Herman Cain. That
being said; Cain will benefit temporarily from this victory and will receive millions in new contributions.
Rick Perry[1] is just another political “Jekyll and Hide.” Throughout his extensive political
career, he’s been a great public servant to some Republicans, but a fraud to others.
Will
there be a “George W. Perry” Presidential Library?
The answer is “NO!”
He will not be the President of the United States in 2013 and never will.
Let’s
discuss the Perry Rino “ON” – Rino “OFF” toggle-switch shall we?
I
have been writing about politicians for decades; however, I have never found so much material available on one individual
as there is on Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Though I don’t agree with the slogan “Read My
Lips: “No More Texans” I would agree though that we shouldn’t repeat the mistakes of the past. Perry is
no Bush but both of them were the Governor of one of the largest states in the union and any Texas Governor will continue
to warrant some consideration.
U.S. News’ Ken Walsh wrote in the “Case against Perry” that the Texas Governor was too Conservative. This is simply untrue and slanderous to accuse Mr. Perry of being overly
conservative.
In fairness, Perry’s policies have consistently supported Pro-life, state’s rights,
and death penalty positions but that does not constitute the assertion that he’s too conservative.
Perry’s 2004 proposal to impose a “Pole Tax” on strip club patrons to fund Public schools was not
considered very conservative by Christians and Constitutionalists alike.
Now, when it comes to jobs, yes Texas
Hold ‘ems; however, Perry’s policies have played only a small part in this story[2].
Perry speaking to the Bilderberg group in 2007 is troubling
enough but I’m more than just a bit curious as to who are these ‘Texans for Rick Perry” that arranged and
funded the trip?
Perry was a tax & spend liberal and chaired Al Gore’s campaign for the White House
in 1988; he decided to switch Parties which provided a huge boost to his political career.
While Perry was serving as Texas agriculture commissioner in
’93, he supported the Clinton Health Care reform proposal, referring to it as "most commendable."
To me, the HPV vaccine is a dead issue. Making it available to all young women who couldn’t
afford it was I believe done with the best of intentions. The opt-out provision protected parental rights[3]. I didn’t agree with it but it was not compulsory and making something available
is much different then mandating a medical procedure.
Many people including yours truly took serious issue
with Perry’s proposed Trans-Texas corridor project which expands the goverment's immanent domain[4] powers and appears to be eerily similar to the UN’s Agenda 21 project[5]. The land grab would have taken over 500,000 acres of land most of which would come
from the private sector.
During the 2008 Presidential elections, Perry endorsed Rino John McCain and asked Mike Huckabee
to withdraw from the race.
On
immigration – The big one:During the September
22nd Debate in Florida, Michele Bachmann said that Texas's law allowing in-state tuition for the children of illegal
immigrants acted like a "magnet" for illegal immigrants. Perry's response was forceful and personal. "I don't think you have a heart," Perry told his critics. Really Tricky Rick? You lost that debate with your own tongue and will lose the election for the
same thing – learn how to control that thing!
From the Dallas news: During the fall semester, 12,138 students - about
1 percent of all Texas college students - benefited from the state law granting in-state tuition, according to the Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board. Most of the immigrants among those students are illegal, and some others are not legal permanent
residents or U.S. citizens[6].
I can spend more time on this; however,
people should know that if you were to bring an illegal alien into your home and educate them then you could go to prison![7]Read
this article from the Dailycaller.com This
comment was ill-advised and his policy is criminal; so regarding my “Heart” Mr. Perry - shut your pie hole! Is Texas Governor Rick Perry the best or worst Republican
candidate for President, well, you must decide for yourself?
Let’s just say for now that
I will vote for him over Barack Obama.
[3] Excerpt from Perry’s Executive Order (RP65): Parents’ Rights. The Department of State Health Services will, in order to protect the right of parents

law. This executive order supersedes all previous orders on this matter that are in conflict or inconsistent with its
terms and this order shall remain in effect and in full force until modified, amended, rescinded, or superseded by me or by
a succeeding governor. Given under my hand this the 2nd day of February, 2007.

I personally don’t have anything against Jon Huntsman however he’s not as conservative as he states three times on his rather
impressive Website/facebook intro page. And based on what you hear about Mr. Huntsman he may consider changing his campaign
slogan to “Well, I’m Not Mitt!”
Huntsman is primarily known for his two former roles as Governor of Utah and U.S. Ambassador
to China under President Obama. He has actually served in the administrations of four United States presidents and sports
a very impressive resume’. I don’t think it’s fair to acknowledge him merely as an Obama appointee, even
I supported the nomination. I respected his decision to serve in such a crucial capacity and feel he should be applauded for
accepting the position for which he was well qualified to serve.
"We certainly hope that Gov.
Romney will reconsider his decision not to sign and encourage Ambassador Huntsman to stand up and be counted on this important
pro-life pledge," said National Political Director Mike Biundo. "Being pro-life is about more than just rhetoric,
it's about consistency and it's about action. And above all, it's about fighting to help protect those who can't protect themselves."[i]
Do I think Jon Huntsmanis qualified to be President of the United States; the answer
is “Yes” by today’s (pathetic) accepted standard. Though I would greatly prefer him over Obama he is still
far from my first pick. I have often written about how important the job of the president is and how all of the candidates
from either party are insufficiently qualified for the office based on 2012 issues and responsibilities. This is the most
important job in the history of the world and very few people take it serious. This is a major decision and we should participate
in selecting our nation’s leader. We should have the very best prospects running and his or her pay should be equal
to that of a mega corporate CEO.
Huntsman has at times taken positions that put him at odds with his party's conservative
base. Jennifer Rubin, a conservative pundit with the Washington Post, stated her opinion that "Huntsman isn't, and never
has been, a rock-solid conservative."[ii]
South Carolina U.S. Senator Jim DeMint slammed former Utah governor current Republican presidential candidate Jon
Huntsman Sunday, saying he will not support him. “For me, he’s out,” Mr. DeMint said
Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Mr. DeMint, a favorite within the Tea Party, said Mr. Huntsman reluctance
to sign a “cut, cap, balance” pledge to slash spending and balance the budget leaves him no choice.[iii]
Huntsman received
a great deal of recognition throughout his term as Governor of Utah where he experienced huge popularity and extremely high
approval ratings. He’s generally considered a moderate Republican, with conservative fiscal credentials and moderate
positions on some social issues. He has been described as "a conservative technocrat-optimist with moderate positions
who was willing to work substantively with President Barack Obama." As governor, Huntsman listed economic development,
health-care reform, education, and energy security as his top priorities.
A good slogan would be: "I'm not Mitt!"
He oversaw large tax cuts
and advocated reorganizing the way that services were distributed so that the government would not become overwhelmed by the
state's fast growing population. He also proposed a plan to reform health-care, mainly through the private
sector, by using tax breaks and negotiation to keep prices down. He once said that “health
care is a right” and originally supported an individual mandate.
Jon Who? by Michael Reagan : All of a sudden, the kept media is all agog over one Jon
(not John) Huntsman, recently retired from his Obama administration post as U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China,
provoking the president to joke that he was "sure that him having worked so well for me will be a great asset in any
Republican primary." Read more...
The Huntsman’s successful family company has boasted often about creating
lots of jobs according to the presidential candidate; but where are these jobs?[iv] Also, read The Huntsman Corporation’s Social Responsibility Page and their Corporate Overview which continual emphasizes their Global Commitment. Why does
this matter?
Well, Donald Trump was praised most of all during his brief bump
in the polls for his tough stance on China and the unfair Global trade[v]. With the Huntsman family being so interconnected with China’s ever-expanding
global influence, can we honestly trust a President who is that interdependent with the world’s potential “Global
Corporate Emperor?” NOT ME!
(Despite an atrocious
human rights record and unfair trade practices; the U.S. continues to grant communist China “The Most-Favored Nation[vi]” trade status).
Jon Huntsman’s love for Asian culture and his ability to speak Chinese [Mandarin] so fluently is not about diplomacy
– it’s Business!
You cannot be pro-American and pro-Global at the
same time. We need a leader that defends American Business worldwide against unfair trade practices – not someone who
will exacerbate the problem!
In a 2008 evaluation
of state governors' fiscal policies, the Cato Institute praised Huntsman'sconservative tax policies, ranking him in a tie for fifth place on overall fiscal
policy.[vii]
NOTE: Amid controversy, Huntsman tweeted that he hasn't and will never donate money to Senate
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) though other members of his family gave the Nevada Democrat nearly $25,000. Often people
make donations for family members when they don’t want their name recorded as a contributor for various reasons. This
is not a “smoking gun” so I will not further comment on this issue for the time being…
“A staple of primary voters’ diets is a healthy serving
of hard hitting rhetorical punches at your opponent, and according to Huntsman, they should be looking somewhere else for
that.” [Excerpt from: The Note: Where’s The Beef? Jon Huntsman Serves Up Tofu To GOP Base]
WTFact: Governor Huntsman also expressed
support for President Obama’s choice of liberal Kathleen Sebelius to be Health and Human Services Secretary more than
two months before he was appointed Ambassador to China by President Obama. “Kathleen brings a fundamental wealth of
knowledge and experience that will be indispensable in leading the reform efforts that are so critical to our nation going
forward,” Governor Huntsman said at the time.[Excerpt
fromClub for Growth: 2012 Presidential White Paper #6] CFG: He received the top score – an “A” – on tax policy, but he received an abysmal “F”
on spending policy. For 2008, the results were similar.
In
closing I would like to point out that over-all Huntsman is a good guy and a worthy candidate. And I do believe that he could
defeat Obama by a slim margin providing that he could raise the billion plus it will take to win.
To me, it’s his loyalty to China and his history
of excessive spending practices that makes him a weak conservative candidate however - he should not be ruled out!
I
have avoided writing about Mitt Romney because of his weakness on social conservative issues and my enormous disdain for “Romneycare”[ii]. However, I can’t take it anymore – a Romney Presidency would be disastrous for
the country!
Romney, Republican?
Putting a pair of old shoes in the oven will not turn them into cupcakes!
“Romneycare” is bankrupting the state of Massachusetts[iii] and may be the single biggest obstacle facing his candidacy. However, political observers are
making a huge mistake by assuming Romney would otherwise be coasting to the nomination.
Romney's actual experience in public office was limited to just one
term as governor, and the results weren't very impressive, let alone inspiring enough to catapult the Rino flip-flopper into
the White House.
All
other announced candidates are much more conservative than Romney!
The Republican establishment, political pundits &
bloggers, and nearly all of the major news sources[iv] are saying that Mitt won the New Hampshire Presidential Debate, while public polling and my
research clearly points to Bachmann as the over-all winner[v]. THEY WANT HIM TO WIN!
~~~
[Excerpt from Wikipedia bio] Until his 1994 U.S. Senate campaign, he was registered as an Independent. In the 1992 Democratic
Party presidential primaries, he had voted for the Democratic former senator from the state, Paul Tsongas. In the 1994 Senate race, Romney explicitly aligned himself with Republican Massachusetts
Governor William Weld, who believed in fiscal conservatism and supported abortion rights and gay rights, saying "I think
Bill Weld's fiscal conservatism, his focus on creating jobs and employment and his efforts to fight discrimination and assure
civil rights for all is a model that I identify with and aspire to.”
~~~
As the Cato institute pointed out in a 2006 report, while Romney didn't raise general tax revenues,
he raised various fees by $500 million and then proposed $140 million in business tax hikes by closing "loopholes."
His health care plan also increased spending, prompting tax increases after he left office to cover major cost overruns.
Attention Republican Candidates - you
must beat Romney or you will not defeat Obama!
Romney's support for "No Child Left Behind," President Bush's
expansion of the federal government's role in education, not only puts him at odds with conservatives, but it also undercuts
the federalist defense of his health care law. If a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work for health care, why should it
work for education?
Herman
Cain tops Mitt Romney on Business and T-Paw beats him on managing budgets!
Consolidating companies may be justified in the business
world; it can be deadly in the political arena. The fact that Romney's business career involved laying off workers was effectively
used against him by the late Ted Kennedy in their 1994 Senate race and by Mike Huckabee in 2008.
A recent USA Today/Gallup poll shows Mitt Romney leading the
field with 24% with Sarah Palin coming in second with 16%[vi]. This support my theory that once the other candidates gain notoriety his lead will dwindle.
Appeals not nonsocial conservatives:
Recently, Mitt made this statement: “I think I line up pretty well with the Tea Party,” he said in response to
a question from The Daily Caller after touring the Derry Feed and Supply store. “They want to see smaller government.
So do I.[vii]” Do you really believe this crap?
~~~
What about this excerpt: At a New Hampshire town hall earlier this
month, Romney broke with Republican orthodoxy when he said, "I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that
humans have contributed to that. ... It's important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that
may be significant contributors." In response, Rush Limbaugh said Romney could kiss the Republican nomination goodbye.
"Good for Mitt Romney," Gore wrote on his blog, as The Hill's
Jordan Fabian notes. "While other Republicans are running from the truth, he is sticking to his guns in the face of the
anti-science wing of the Republican Party[viii]."
~~~
The
evidence in overwhelming, Mitt Romney is not a conservative and is leading primarily due to name recognition. The mainstream
media has consistently propagated the myth that he is the ultra fiscally conservative candidate in order to prevent a true
conservative from occupying the White House.
I am still amazed at his popularity and at times have difficulty believing the polling data. Romney’s business
skills have been exaggerated and his fiscal policies while governor were a colossal failure. I only hope that in the upcoming
months that people of America will do their homework and not just vote their pocketbooks so blindly!
Would I vote for Romney over Obama if for some miraculous way
he ends up winning the Republican nomination?
Well, as much as it would pains me to say - the answer is an emphatic “Yes!”
NOTEWORTHY: Club
for Growth “White Paper” Summary[ix]: Because of his long tenure in public life, especially his presidential run in 2008, Mitt Romney is considered a well-vetted
candidate by now. Perhaps to his consternation, he has developed an unshakeable reputation as a flip-flopper. He has changed
his position on several economic issues, including taxes, education, political free speech, and climate change. And yet the
one issue that he doesn’t flip on – RomneyCare – is the one that is causing him the most problems with conservative
voters. Nevertheless, he labels himself as a pro-growth fiscal conservative, and we have no doubt that Romney would move the
country in a pro-growth direction. He would promote the unwinding of Obama’s bad economic policies, but we also think
that Romney is somewhat of a technocrat. After a career in business, quickly finding a “solution” seems to be
his goal, even if it means more government intrusion as a means to an end. To this day, Romney supports big government solutions
to health care and opposes pro-growth tax code reform – positions that are simply opposite to those supported by true
economic conservatives. How much Romney’s philosophy of governance will affect his policy goals if elected, we leave
for the voters to decide.
Presidential Candidate Tim Pawlenty is gaining some steam but not enough. The former Minnesota Governor at this point
is running the smartest campaign and may eventually surpass Mitt Romney and become the front-runner in the race to secure
the GOP nomination. This will however depend on his willingness to take on oRomneycare with passion and his ability to
avoid major gaffes.
He'll blow it before the primary!
The Governor’s past is not without
controversy but for now I want to focus on his 2012 Presidential campaign. There is assuredly more than enough sources, pro
& con to cover his life and career, Wikipedia is just one example.
Fox News correspondent Bill O’Reilly
has stated several times that if T-Paw would invoke more Trump-like passion he might be able to draw badly needed support
from the millions of angry voters.[i]
Recently, South Carolina Congressman Joe “You Lie” Wilson has endorsed Pawlenty
and now has agreed to join the campaign.[ii]
Former Georgia Governor Sonny
Perdue and previous national co-chairman for the Newt Gingrich campaign announced that he will be joining the leadership team
of the Pawlenty campaign.[iii]
Though GOP major
players Huckabee, Daniels, Pence, and Christie, have declined to run, their endorsements will play a major part in the Republican
primaries.
Other
powerhouses who are undecided such as Huntsman, Jeb Bush, Sarah Palin, John Bolton,
Rick Perry, and Jim DeMint will also become key factors in the process.
I still believe that Donald Trump will re-enter the race following the Celebrity Apprentice’s finale.
Trump, in my opinion can’t win and his endorsement won’t make much of a positive difference for republicans but
will help Obama.
Polarizing
confirmed candidates Gingrich and Paul pending a T-Paw scandal may not be able to overcome Pawlenty’s growing popularity.
Michele Bachmann is also gaining ground and her impact on the race should not be taken lightly.
Mitt Romney is only leading (not winning) because the majority of eligible Republican voters
still remain undecided. He is weak on social issues that matter to most conservatives. His now infamous "Romneycare"
which may eventually bankrupt the state of Massachusetts to many invalidates his claim of being a “Fiscal Conservative!” As
far as announced candidates for President, Rick Santorum, I believe is the strongest Social Conservative in the race. Rick
at this point does not have the name recognition, financial resources, and electability to win the GOP nomination. This election
will be overwhelming decided by the economy and Santorum lacks the fiscal policy experience and plan that the voters are seeking.
Pawlenty has Santorum beat in the Fiscal category. You may not agree with the Pawlenty Economic Plan but he has a plan and
it’s very comprehensive[iv]unlike Obama and the other 2012 presidential candidates. Rick’s endorsement however will be invaluable to the other candidates.
Cain is a potential wildcard but due to
his past chairmanship on the KC Federal Reserve Board and ardent support for Tarp will make it difficult for him to beat Pawlenty
in the GOP primary.
I assure you of one thing, everything will
change if Rick Perry chooses to enter the race!
I personally like Tim but feel that his
lack of passion and his Economic Plan will be his downfall. The plan will eventually be perceived as overkill, unoriginal,
and undoable thus scaring off voters and finacial supporters – only time will tell.
I urge everyone to please
get involved and do your homework – this is the most important election in the history of the world.
Final
Note: There' no emotion. If T-Paw does not inject passion and animation into the upcoming debate and ads then he will certainy
lose.
Back in the eighties I enthusiastically
became part of a political movement in Louisiana called the “Roemer Revolution.” For a time Buddy Roemer and I
had many things in common, primarily our intense hatred for then Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards.
Roemer
and I both came from a family of die-hard democrats who were solidly behind the proudly corrupt Edwin Edwards. Many
thought Edwards was a savior for the poor, working class, and elderly – I instead professed him as an opportunist. Being
a Republican voter and activist back then was very unpopular and even my own Sheriff for whom I served was a democrat who
was best friends with Edwards even after his imprisonment.
Though I had only played a small part
in the campaign I did however support him almost to the very end of his term as governor. I was young and inexperience in
big-time politics but I will never regret backing Roemer.
“My involvement with the Roemer campaign was an invaluable learning
experience.”
Roemer was elected only after Edwin Edward withdrew from the election in a scheme to
allow Roemer to serve just one term. I still don’t believe that Buddy was part of this scheme which was devised by Edwards
and Roemer’s father Charlie who became a fall-guy and served jail time for Edwards. Buddy’s one term I believe
was the pay-off.
Roemer was staunchly pro-education and implemented testing requirements for public school
teachers which caused a revolt within the educational community – he was always committed to education reform and teacher
standards. Buddy is a very educated and intelligent man who is a strong fiscal conservative and I was elated when he made
the decision to abandon the overly corrupt Democratic Party. He brought the Republican Party needed notoriety in an extremely
liberal state. I am still grateful for him for opening the door that led to Louisiana becoming a Republican state.
“During
my few brief encounters with Roemer I thanked him for inspiring young Republicans who were often left out of the process.”
My split with Roemer came when he became committed to bringing legalized gambling to Louisiana, a state already struggling
with its morally corrupt image. Many think that that Edwards was the puppetmaster behind the scenes pulling the Roemer strings.
Regardless of Edward’s part in the plan, I hated it and fought it every step of the way.
Roemer
also disappointed me by vetoing a pro-life bill authored by Democratic Senator Mike Cross which was supported by most Conservative
& Christian groups along with many prominent Republican leaders.
Though I have no intensions to ever
supporting Buddy Roemer because of his weakness on social issues, I am however pleased to see a proven and experienced fiscally
conservative businessman enter the race for President.
He will definitely bring some fireworks to the debate.
Matthew 10:33 (KJV) But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

DEMOCRATIC PLAN #63
U.S. Will Pay $2.6 Million
to Train Chinese Prostitutes to Drink Responsibly on the Job Tuesday, May 12, 2009 By Edwin Mora
(CNSNews.com) -- The National Institute
of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAA), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will pay $2.6 million
in U.S. tax dollars to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly on the job.
Dr. Xiaoming Li, the researcher
conducting the program, is director of the Prevention Research Center at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.
The grant, made last November, refers to prostitutes as "female sex workers"--or FSW--and
their handlers as "gatekeepers."
"Previous studies in Asia and Africa and our own data from
FSWs [female sex workers] in China suggest that the social norms and institutional policy within commercial sex venues as
well as agents overseeing the FSWs (i.e., the 'gatekeepers', defined as persons who manage the establishments and/or sex workers)
are potentially of great importance in influencing alcohol use and sexual behavior among establishment-based FSWs," says
the NIH grant abstract submitted by Dr. Li.
"Therefore, in this application, we propose to develop,
implement, and evaluate a venue-based alcohol use and HIV risk reduction intervention focusing on both environmental and individual
factors among venue-based FSWs in China," says the abstract.
The research will take place in the southern
Chinese province of Guangxi.
Guangxi is ranked third in HIV rate among Chna's provinces--and is a place where
the sex business is pervasive, Li said.
“The purpose of the project is to try and develop an intervention
program targeting HIV risk and alcohol use,” Li told CNSNews.com. “So basically, it’s an alcohol and HIV
risk reduction intervention project."
The researcher outlined three components of the intervention program
in the abstract for the project:
“(1) gatekeeper training with a focus on changing or enhancing the
protective social norms and policy/practice at the establishment level; (2) FSW (female sex workers) training with a focus
on the acquisition of communication skills (negotiating, limit setting) and behavioral skills (e.g., condom use skills, consistent
condom use); and (3) semi-annual boosters to reinforce both social norms within establishments and individual skills,”
wrote Li.
The doctor said the heart of the study involves “a community-based cluster randomized controlled
trial among 100 commercial sex venues in Beihai, a costal tourist city in Guangxi.”
"We anticipate that
the venue-based intervention program will be culturally appropriate, feasible, effective and sustainable in alcohol use and
sexual risk reduction among FSWs," says the NIH grant abstract.
Li said his study is being done
in China rather than the U.S. because prostitution occurs with alcohol use in the United States like it does in China, Americans
will be able to benefit from the project’s findings.
“We want to get some understanding of the fundamental
role of alcohol use and HIV risk,” he said. “We use the population in China as our targeted population to look
at the basic issues. I think the findings will benefit the American people, too.”
Li said minimal research
has been conducted on the link between alcohol use and prostitution as it relates to HIV.
“Alcohol has been
a part of the commerce of sex for many, many years. Unfortunately, both global-wise (and) in the United States, very few researchers
are looking at the complex issue of the inter play between alcohol and the commerce of sex,” he told CNSNews.com.
The grant is one of several “international initiatives” sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
Ralph Hingson, director of epidemiology and prevention research at NIAA, told CNSNews.com, “There are many Americans
who travel to China each year and they should be made aware of the HIV problem.”
Hingson said that Americans
will be able to apply the studies findings to the American situation because 1.2 million Americans are currently living with
HIV.
Li’s research includes exploration, development, implementation and evaluation. Currently, the project
stands at the exploration stage, which the doctor expects to last 18 months.
“The first phase is kind of
an exploratory study just trying to get a good understanding of the phenomena in the population of female sex workers in China.
The second phase is the program development,” the professor told CNSNews.com.
Phase two will be based
on the first year of the study and on “field observations,” he added. The third phase will be the implementation
and evaluation of the program.
“Prostitution is illegal in China but it exists in China," Li told
CNSNews.com, “but the Chinese government and the society’s attitude towards prostitution is complicated.”
According to Li, there may be as many as 10 million female prostitutes in China with the majority raging from teenagers
to those in their 20s.
“We see a lot of governmental initiatives in China, like 100 percent condom distribution
promotion programs, so they deliver condoms in those (prostitution) venues," he added.
“The global literature
indicates an important role of alcohol use in facilitating HIV/AIDS transmission risk in commercial sex venues where elevated
alcohol use/abuse and sexual risk behaviors frequently co-occur,” Li wrote when introducing the project last November.
"We expect that the intervention will improve protective normative beliefs and institutional support regarding
alcohol use and HIV protection,” he added.
The NIH proposal hypothesizes that the program will decrease "problem
drinking and alcohol-related sexual risk" among prostitutes that participate.
"We hypothesize that
the venue-based intervention will change and enhance the protective social norms and institutional policies at the establishment
level and such enhancement, accompanied by individual skill training among FSWs, will demonstrate a sustainable effect within
commercial sex establishments in decreasing problem drinking and alcohol-related sexual risk, increasing consistent and correct
condom use, and reducing rates of HIV/STD infection among FSWs," says the NIH abstract.
